Have you ever fallen out of love with your job?

1/24/2023

💔 Breaking up is hard to do….

Sometimes it happens overnight; other times, it’s a slow change. Sometimes we fall out of love with our job and get that funny feeling when we know it’s time to move on…

This can happen for a variety of reasons:
• Staying in the same role or company for too long
• Reporting to a new leader who negatively changes the team dynamic
• It’s not a fun place to work anymore
• Boredom, lack of career growth and challenges
• Your work “best friends” have changed companies and it’s not the same
• Burnout ~ working too many hours without sufficient time off
• The company culture and values have changed
• Money becomes the reason to stay
• Loyal employees don’t feel seen or valued
• Major life events ~ illness, divorce, moving & having a baby/adopting can cause the employee to rethink and reevaluate their goals and priorities

Sometimes the company hasn’t changed, but the employee has, and it’s just simply time for a new beginning.

There are also times when employees see behind the curtain, think “Wizard of Oz,” and the magic disappears. Employees may realize it’s not the place they thought it was…

How To Be a Standout Candidate During The Great Resignation

12/3/2021

🔥The Great Resignation has set the job market on fire, and candidates are in the driver's seat. Unfortunately, recruiters are finding that candidates are less engaged, and many are missing interviews or ghosting employers.

It is a small world, and you want to represent your brand (You Inc.) professionally. Even if the job opportunity isn't right for you, be aware of how you decline, as you never know where the future may lead.

To be a standout candidate during The Great Resignation:
✨Ensure your LinkedIn profile is up-to-date with keywords that have employers search for you.
✨When you receive a call for an interview, respond. Even if you have found another job, let the recruiter know.
✨Do not miss your interview. Candidates are skipping interviews and not showing up. This goes for phone, Zoom and in-person interviews. If you are no longer interested, cancel the interview in advance.
✨Choose to work for leaders that believe in you and see your potential.
✨Ask about your career opportunities and growth during the interview. Find out where your career path could lead.
✨Have market value salary expectations for your experience level. It's not about who offers you the largest salary.
✨If you are asked if you are in another interview process, be honest and transparent. You don't have to give details, but sharing that you are actively in the market is completely reasonable and understandable.

Job Postings Decoded

8/26/2021

🛑 When looking through job postings, do you only apply to positions that you are overqualified for?

📃It is important to treat job postings as though they are a set of guidelines about what a position involves. It is not a strict list of requirements that you must have to apply.

💻To be successful in the job, you should have at least some of the knowledge and skills that the job requires and the willingness to learn.

✅ If you don't apply, you'll never know.

2009 Flashback...

9/25/2020

I unexpectedly found my facilitator introduction from an online Recruitment & Selection course I taught in 2009.

👇🏼👇🏼

My career path provided me with experience in Sales, Operations and finally into the dynamic world of Human Resources. My understanding of the business allows me to be a valuable business partner to my clients.

Recruitment is not just about reading resumes and asking questions. It is about finding talented, high performing individuals who are looking for a place to grow their career and call home.

A great recruiter can change your life. I will always be grateful that a great recruiter changed mine.

What are the meaningful insights that I took from my walk down memory lane?

🔑 HR understanding and partnering with the business is a job requirement
🔑 There is not just one way forward. Look at candidates with transferable experience, skills and abilities
🔑 The candidate experience represents your employer brand
🔑Be transparent about what a candidate can expect once they become an employee - leadership, deliverables, expectations & culture
🔑 The recruitment experience changes lives, career paths & trajectories

"Comfy" comfort zones

9/5/2020

Comfort zones exist as our safe places. They are our go-to's and bring forth feelings of stability, certainty and security. They can help us to feel comfortable and unintentionally can help us to avoid change...

Stepping out of our comfort zones can be scary, terrifying and also completely liberating. Yes - change can be exhilarating. 🤩

It's ok to become comfortable with being uncomfortable.

📌 Don’t attempt to change everything at once. Baby steps are better than no steps...
📌 Make a list of what you are afraid of or are concerned to do and WHY
📌 Take small steps toward your goals - you can always adjust or change as needed
📌 Don't be afraid of change or the feelings associated with being uncomfortable during the change
📌 Do not think about what you didn't do or should have done. Tomorrow can be a better day.

Every day we have the power to change our lives, our habits, and to make choices that help us to move away from our "comfy" comfort zones, one step at a time...

Why employee recognition matters

8/21/2020

Employee recognition has always been a driver of engagement. Leaders often forget about how simple and easy recognition can be. Never underestimate the power of meaningful and authentic appreciation.
  • Recognize great work early and often
  • Say thank you
  • Send e-cards and emails
  • Add a “share your success” segment in team meetings
  • Share positive comments and compliments
  • Send a care package to employees and open together during a video call
  • Give the gift of time - a summer Friday afternoon off
  • Appreciate the unique strengths and talents of each team member
